COLONOSCOPY

An internal examination of the large intestine with a long, flexible tube with an attached camera.

UPPER ENDOSCOPY

An internal examination of the upper digestive system using a long, flexible tube with an attached camera.

ERCP

(Endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography)
A procedure used to diagnose and treat diseases of the gallbladder, biliary system, pancreas and liver using a specialized upper endoscope.

ESOPHAGEAL DILATION

A procedure used to dilate, or stretch, a narrowed area of the esophagus, performed during upper endoscopy.

FLEXIBLE SIGMOIDOSCOPY

An internal examination of the lower portion of the large intestine with a long, flexible tube with an attached camera.

FIBROSCAN

A specialized ultrasound for the liver that measures fibrosis (scarring) and steatosis (fatty change) in your liver.

ESOPHAGEAL VARICEAL SCREENING AND BANDING

A procedure to look for enlarged veins in the esophagus and stomach, which sometimes require the placement of elastic bands to prevent bleeding.

PEG TUBE PLACEMENT AND REPLACEMENT

Placement/replacement of a flexible feeding tube through the abdominal wall and into the stomach to allow for the delivery of nutrition, fluids and/or medications; performed by upper endoscopy.

SMALL BOWEL WIRELESS VIDEO CAPSULE ENDOSCOPY

An examination of the small intestine using a small, swallowed capsule with attached camera to capture images of the digestive tract.
